The company made headlines once again when they announced that they would be accepting dogecoin cryptocurrency as payment. What makes this news interesting is that no one takes Dogecoin seriously since its inception is based on a meme. It turns out, SpaceX doesn’t care about that.

• The news came when the company’s official Twitter profile tweeter said they would be launching a mission to the moon called Doge-1. The value of Dogecoin has been falling for a long time, but that does not bother SpaceX as they are adamant about putting the currency on the moon.
• Although the exact details of the mission are unknown, the Vice President of Commercial Sales for SpaceX, Tom Ochinero, said that this mission would show the world the applications of cryptocurrency.
• These tweets from Elon Musk have helped turn Dogecoin into one of the biggest cryptocurrencies in the world. Initially, people took it as a joke, but it has recently become the fourth most prominent cryptocurrency.
• The Dogecoin value has gone up by as much as 800% over the last month; this has made its market value rise over USD 70 billion. This was short-lived as its price dropped on Sunday when Elon Musk called it a “hustle” while hosting Saturday Night Live.
• Elon Musk takes cryptocurrency very seriously. In February alone, he announced that Tesla would be buying $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin. The company also unveiled that it would be accepting cryptocurrency as payment for its vehicles in the future.
